Receding Earth

There will be 14 new sculptural paintings on exhibit that deal issues of global warming, pollution and destruction executed in a conceptually abstract manner. Gates & Fences Public Art Project - Phoenix, AZ
The Phoenix Public Art Program is developing a regional talent pool of artists to design beautiful and durable metal fences and gates for a wide range of public buildings and spaces, including police stations, fire stations and parks. Innovative blacksmiths and artists with significant experience in translating two-dimensional designs into metalwork are encouraged to apply. This call is limited to artists living and working in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. The first public art project initiated through this call will be gates for a new Police Substation in north-central Phoenix. Several other extensive fence and gate projects are expected to be developed through the Phoenix Public Art Program in the next two years. It is anticipated that the pool of artists for those projects will be identified through this selection process. Application Receipt Deadline: April 17, 2007. Dove Valley Park
Phoenix Public Art invites Arizona artists to submit their qualifications to create a sculpture for a new 4.7-acre park in north Phoenix. The recently-completed Dove Valley Park, at Cave Creek Road and Rancho Paloma Drive (south of Carefree Highway), includes open turf areas, a playground, basketball court, ramada and small nature trail, all within view of scenic Black Mountain. The artist will be selected to work with City staff and the community to create a sculpture that will be sited along a pathway near the park's entrance. Deadline: April 12, 2007. Budget: $30,000. Vietnam Veterans Memorial - Angel Fire, NM
New Mexico Energy Minerals and Natural Resources Department, State Parks Division wishes to commission an interior meditation pedestal and sculpture for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park Peace and Brotherhood Chapel located at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park, north of Angel Fire, NM. The artwork will be the focal point of the interior of Chapel. The concept and impression to be embodied and conveyed by this artwork is based on honor, tranquility, healing, peace and brotherhood to all mankind. This was the first major Memorial established in the United States to honor Vietnam veterans and has drawn worldwide attention as a place of healing for those affected by the Vietnam conflict. Digital Learning Center - Orem, Utah
The Utah Public Art Program announces a new call for qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific art for the new Digital Learning Center at Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah. It is the intent of the committee to commission art for this new facility that is part of the College's focus on modern, contemporary culture and media. The total budget is $313,000. Turnpike Authority - Portland, ME
The Maine Turnpike Authority is calling artists to submit proposals to design, execute and install artwork at its new headquarters in Portland, Maine. The committee is seeking an artist or artists to conceive and execute a work or series of connected works for the new space. Available locations within the site's publicly accessible areas include an entry terrace, central floor area on second level under skylight, central skylight, third level central wall opposite staircase, gallery space, peaked ceiling and walls of "Authority" room. Artists may access the vast archive of turnpike construction photographs. Renderings of the site are available upon request. $100,000 inclusive is available for this project. Art on the Streets
The Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs announces a call to artists for the 9th Annual Art on the Streets, an outdoor art competition and year-long exhibition presented by U.S. Bank and Nor'wood Development Group and displayed throughout Downtown Colorado Springs, July 20, 2007-June, 2008. Open to all types of public art suitable for outdoor display. Large-scale, outside-the-box, can't be missed pieces are desirable. The only common denominator among selected works is the durability, safety and quality of the art. $35,000 in awards. Juror: Bruce Guenther, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art for the Portland Art Museum. Treasures for Tomorrow Outdoor Sculpture Competition
The Oklahoma Health Center Foundation is seeking an artist to create an outdoor work of public art at the Oklahoma Health Center (OHC) in Oklahoma City. It may include sculpture, light, water, landscape elements, unique or alternative art media, or any combination appropriate for the site and concept. The concept is hope. The project must convey hope to all who enter or pass by the OHC. This work of public art is a joint project of the Oklahoma Health Center Foundation, Treasures for Tomorrow and the Dean McGee Eye Institute. Project budget is $300,000 inclusive. 56th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition
All artists residing in the state of Florida are invited to submit up to three (3) entries for the 56th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition to be held at the Boca Raton Museum of Art June 13-August 26, 2007. All entries must be submitted online no later than April 23, 2007. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $35 for up to three (3) artworks. Payment is accepted online only by credit cards. Zona Rosa Arts Festival - Kansas City, MO
For the first time, this year the Platte County Arts at Zona Rosa arts festival will feature artists from across the country, rather than only local artists as in years past. Artists' booths will converge along the streets and in Town Square September 14-16 for this fourth annual event. Platte County Arts at Zona Rosa will spotlight visual artists' creations as well as performing artists including dance, music, photography, painting, sculpture, and jewelry. The arts festival was created by the county's art council four years ago in an effort to celebrate the talent and diversity of artists and share it with a wide audience. Artists seeking to demonstrate at the fair must fill out an application available online at www.zonarosa.com or www.plattecountyarts.org. International Student Photographic Show
The exhibition is open to domestic and international students working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both. Submitters must be currently enrolled as full-time or part time students in a high school, college or independent school program. Submitters do not have to be enrolled in a photography program. Juror: Hannah Frieser Hannah is active in the Society for Photographic Education and director of Light Work. All exhibitions provide opportunities for artists to present their work to an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and others who appreciate the fine art of photography. Sponsored by VSA arts and Volkswagen of America, Inc. Open to young artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, living within the United States. No entry fee. Driven challenges artists to pinpoint the motivational force behind their artistic expression and to identify the catalyst that sustains their creative energy. Art must be an original work that has been completed in the last three (3) years. Eligible media includes: paintings, drawings, fine art prints, photography, computer-generated prints, and mixed media; must be presented in two dimensions. Artwork should not exceed 60 inches in either direction. Fifteen (15) finalists will be awarded a total of $60,000 in awards during an awards ceremony on Capitol Hill in September 2007, and artwork will be displayed in a nation-wide touring exhibition that debuts at the Smithsonian. Sculpture Park at City Hall - Redding, CA
The City of Redding in northern California seeks artists to display up to four pieces of sculpture in The Sculpture Park at City Hall. The selected artist(s) will be paid to transport, install and remove the artwork, which will be displayed for two years. A total of four pieces will be selected, with payment of: $6,000 for two pieces or $12,000 for four pieces. Entries must be original works of art.
