Time-Based Public Art Project - Scottsdale, AZ
The Scottsdale Public Art Program seeks an artist to complete a time-based public artwork at the annual Scottsdale Arts Festival. The ideal candidate will create an artwork that is highly interactive and will be visually prominent in a festival setting. A nationally known event, the Arts Festival occurs during the height of Scottsdale's tourist season and can draw up to 40,000 visitors. The budget for the project is $11,000. Des Moines Arts Festival
The Des Moines Arts Festival invites you to be a part of Iowa's premier celebration of the arts on June 26-28, 2009. The Des Moines Arts Festival features the art work of 175 juried artists, 24 juried emerging Iowa artists, and over 325 students in the Nurturing a Student's Vision Exhibition. In addition, the Festival offers more than 30 interactive family arts activities, special events, eclectic food from more than 20 vendors and more than 90 hours of free entertainment on two music stages and one performing arts stage. Money-Money-Money
This show seeks to address personal, political, and economic issues pertaining to the cultural currency of money. In today's political climate, how does money move, change, and effect nations and/or individuals? The effects of economic issues on national decisions, the effect of a global economy on the individual, the individual artist's relationship to the economy, and the aesthetic value of currency are some aspects that the artist is asked to contemplate. Maternal Legends
Mothers, grandmothers, sisters, stories, histories, legends, legacies. What did we learn from our mothers, and their mothers, and their mothers..? What are the stories that have been passed down through the generations? How did the women in our families shape who we are today? Let's explore and celebrate our Maternal Legends through the magic of artist books. This exhibit is open to book arts related artworks created as either an edition or one-of-a-kind. Artist books, sculptural books, book objects, altered books, zines or broadsides are encouraged. Any medium, any style. This exhibition will be juried by Cara List who is the artist books librarian at the Art and Architecture Library at the University of Oregon. Art City Austin 2009
At the intersection of art and life, creativity and commerce, collaboration and imagination, artists descend on the hub of innovation, expression, and individuality that is Austin, Texas. Embracing Our Differences
Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 5th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. Forty-five artists will be selected for the exhibit. The exhibit will be displayed throughout the month of April 2008 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bay front and be displayed throughout the month of May 2008 in North Port, Florida. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme Embracing Our Differences . The artwork will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size, 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. Park and Ride - Glendale, AZ
The City of Glendale, Arizona announces a public art opportunity for a qualified artist or artist team to design, fabricate and install artwork for the first Park and Ride Lot in Glendale. The Glendale Arts Commission and the Transit Management Department support this public art project cooperatively. Life of The River 2009 - Green Bay, WI
This effort is a privately funded public art project that includes sculptural commissions. The project is administered by the Mayor's Neighborhood Leadership Council (MNLC) in partnership with the City of Green Bay. Proposals are being accepted for commissions with installations scheduled for the summer of 2009. Selected projects will be freestanding sculptures suitable for outdoor installation along the Fox River Trail in downtown Green Bay. Sculptures must be durable and able to withstand elements over time. This is the third and final installation of a three-year project. The theme, Life of the River, is a celebration of the historical nature and natural beauty of the Fox River as it flows through the City of Green Bay. The works shall reflect historical (including the indigenous peoples of the region), natural, or manmade elements, the vitality of the Fox River and the inhabitants affected by it. MFA Now
The competition is open to all graduate students of fine arts who have been enrolled in a graduate program during the 2007 and/or 2008 calendar years. If you were enrolled in a graduate level fine arts course during 2007 or 2008, you are eligible. Based in New York, MFA Now is an international arts organization sponsoring arts related events for graduate students enrolled in fine arts programs in North America, Europe and Asia. MFA Now's mission is to promote emerging artists through arts competitions and other programs. In the process, MFA Now will provide worldwide exposure for young artists whose unique talent will help define the next generation of fine arts. In its inaugural year, MFA Now will host an international painting competition. This event will culminate in 2009 with a three-city exhibition: New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing. This year's competition is the first annual event in which the media focus will change but which will expand to encompass an ever-widening geographic sphere. This year's focus is painting, while next year's event will be a multi-media event. MFA Now looks forward to engaging with young artists on an international scale, demonstrating that the arts are as vital and exciting as ever. All artists emerging from their graduate programs of study are encouraged to submit their work for review by MFA Now's dynamic panel of international jurors. Uintah Basin Applied Technology College - Vernal, UT
This state building project is a unique partnership between the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College (UBATC), Utah State University (USU) and the community as a whole. The buildings will primarily offer career and technical programs through UBATC and academic courses through USU. It consists of a classroom and an industrial technology building which are connected by a glass pedestrian corridor. This project, which is currently under construction, will be the first building on this new higher education campus and is scheduled to be completed in July of 2009. The artwork for this facility should reflect the unique character of the site, the community, the strong push and demand for energy development technologies in this community and the unique collaborative nature of education being offered here. The artist can look to the site, the strength of the community, the history of Vernal, the architecture of the new building, but most importantly to the students that will be served there. The committee has identified two exterior areas as possible sites for public art work (the exterior plaza - the center island of the circular drive drop off area) but will be open to other possibilities as suggested by interested artists. Pixels and Pages
Exhibit One Gallery is now accepting submissions for the Pixels and Pages. The artwork submitted should be inspired by video games and/or comic books, it is completely up to the artist's interpretation on this theme. Artwork could have a specific reference or a broad mixture of many elements. This is not meant to be limiting to the artist, but should be used as a jumping off point for creativity. Juried by Jackson Titus, an Oklahoma State University professor of fine art. Total of $500 in cash prizes. $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and two honorable mentions for $50 each. Submissions are $20 for up to 3 images, $5 for each additional image. Deadline: midnight on Monday, October 13, 2008. All artists will be notified by October 15th. Negative Space
It is not always the subject, but also the negative space around the subject that makes a photograph truly stunning. This exhibition will highlight the compositional element that makes up the space not commonly seen. Open Juried Show
The Ciao Gallery in Jackson, Wyoming announces a call to artists for the Open Juried Show at Ciao Gallery, to be held October 31-November 28, 2008. University of Central Florida - Orlando
Florida's Art in State Buildings Program at the University of Central Florida in Orlando is issuing a Call to Artists for a new Performing Arts Complex. The Complex includes an exterior courtyard that will eventually be the east-end terminus of an adjacent sculpture garden area. The selection committee has identified the courtyard as an exceptional opportunity for the placement of sculpture, earthwork or a similar site-specific installation solution. Emmett O'Brien Technical High School - Ansonia, CT
Emmett O'Brien Technical High School will undergo renovations and new construction bringing about a new face that will greet students, staff and visitors to the campus. The site committee is interested in a work of art for the interior of the school along a major corridor leading to the administrative offices near the main lobby. The corridor is 12 feet in width and has a ceiling that tapers down from 18 feet to 9 feet in height. Artwork along this new corridor will be highly visible and should reflect how the school strives to promote a vibrant and intellectual environment. The committee has expressed interest in the use of colored glass in a mural format along the wall. The committee has discussed the possibility of a work of art that either has movement or implies movement. Florida's Art in State Buildings Program at the University of Florida announces a public art project at the University's College of Dentistry Clinic in Naples, Florida. In collaboration with other academic and community leaders, the University of Florida is launching a world-class program to improve access to dental services for at-risk children in Collier County, FL. The Naples Dental Clinic public art project (UF-303) is seeking artwork that relates to the design criteria of the new facility: health, education, caring, accessibility and the site as a dental home. The budget for this project is $20,000 and honoraria will be given to any selected finalists from this budget. Deadline: November 14, 2008.
