Fire Station No. 9 - Columbia, MO
The City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) invites artists residing in Missouri to apply for a public art project for the city's Fire Station No. 9. The art budget for the Fire Station project is $14,500. Fire Station No. 9 will be located on the northwest corner of North Providence Road and Blueridge road in Columbia. Once completed, Fire Station No. 9 will be designated as the city's HAZMAT station and will include a Columbia Police Department Sub-Station. The station will feature drive-thru bays for safer movement of trucks and more room for reserve and specialty equipment as well as living quarters for the fire department employees who will staff the station 24 hours a day. Artists should submit qualifications only, not design proposals, a hallmark of the city's Percent for Art program since it allows the artist, once selected, to propose a work or works after they are under contract and have been able to learn the specifics of the overall construction site and project. A prospectus, including guidelines for applying, is available at www.GoColumbiaMo.com/Arts (select the "artist opportunity" link at the top of the page) or by contacting the OCA for a printed copy. To be considered, complete applications must be postmarked by December 12, 2008. In addition to being exhibited in city buildings, the photographs will be used online and in educational publications to create awareness of the Office of Historic Preservation’s programs. The completed portfolio should demonstrate the photographer’s vision and document some of the city's more notable historic landmarks. Elsewhere Artists Collaborative
Elsewhere, an arts production site and experimental museum in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, is seeking artists, curators, writers, musicians, and cultural producers for residencies during its spring, summer, and fall 2009 seasons. Elsewhere s building two storefronts on the ground floor, a 14-room boarding house on the second, and warehouse on the third provides dynamic architectures for the creation and installation of works. Artists live and work within transforming installations; these interactive environments become platforms for re-conceptualizing the theory and practice of art-making as an ongoing process of exchange in community. Within a store where nothing is for sale, Elsewhere offers an unparalleled framework for creative practices, processes and productions outside the traditional gallery, museum, and residency systems. The complete call for artists, application deadlines are available at www.elsewhereelsewhere.org/residencies.html. LACDA 2008 International Juried Competition
The LA Center for Digital Art (LACDA) announces its juried competition for digital art and photography. Our competitions are very open ended in terms of concept and approach, choosing not impose limits on the artists. Rather, we encourage a broad range of technological creativity. Many top level academics, many self-taught "outsiders," some persons of great celebrity, many entirely unknown are exhibited--the LACD is radically inclusive and all are welcome. The only caveat is that the work must involve digital processes of some kind (as this is our focus). That one requirement instantly narrows things down to a very identifiable realm of activity, in which the LACDA has sought expertise and for which it is a formidable advocate. This open approach is informed by its many years of experience in that regard. Entrants submit three jpeg files of original work. All styles of artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral to the creation of the images are acceptable. The competition is international, open to all geographic locations. The selected winner recieves 10 prints up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper (approximately a $1500-$2000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our main gallery from January 8-31, 2009. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist. Second place prizes: Five second place winners will receive one print of their work up to 24x36 inches ($150-$200 in value) to be included in upcoming group shows. Second place winners will be scheduled into group shows within 12 months of announcement of winners. Consideration is given to placing these works in shows appropriate to their style, genre and/or content. These shows will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artists. Special consideration will be given to all entrants for inclusion in future shows at LACDA. Many entrants from past competitions have already been included in our exhibits. Deadline: Tuesday, December 15, 2008. Complete Prospectus: lacda.com/juried/juriedshow.html
