Call for Sculpture - Yakima, WA
The Yakima Arts Giving Circle (YAGC) exists for the purpose of promoting an expanded artistic presence in the City of Yakima, Washington by encouraging artists to create and place works of public art in the City of Yakima, with particular emphasis on the City's urban core. The YAGC seeks a work of art to be installed at the T-intersection of A Street and Front Street in the Historic District of Yakima, WA on a site set aside for this specific purpose. The art should be compatible with its environment but need not be "historic" in style or content. It is desirable that the work fits the general theme of light, a major component of the artistic and architectural revitalization of Yakima's urban core and a natural feature of the Yakima environment. The YAGC will consider works to be commissioned or works already extant. Applications may be submitted by individual artists and by artist teams. Deadline: February 28, 2009. CityArts 2009 - Dallas, TX
In 2004, the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Dallas-Office of Cultural Affairs and the Arts District Friends (now the Dallas Arts District Alliance) joined together to create a signature event for the City of Dallas that would showcase spectacular cultural, performing, visual and culinary arts. Nearly 20,000 people participated in the inaugural festival in 2004, and attendance more than doubled the following year. By 2008, the 5th annual CityArts Celebration brought more than 115,000 visitors through the Dallas Arts District for a weekend full of free family fun. Deadline: February 27, 2009. Visions of Santa Clarita - Santa Clarita, CA
The City of Santa Clarita Arts & Events Office (AEO) and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee (SCAAC) seek to develop an exhibition using The Santa Clarita Valley as inspiration. Potentially, 20 pieces of artwork or more will be selected for inclusion in the exhibit "Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You." All artist submissions will be reviewed and selected by the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee. What is your vision of the Santa Clarita Valley? Artist's using a variety of medium including photography, paint, multi-media, etc. are encouraged to submit existing or new works based on the exhibition theme "Visions of Santa Clarita: Where the Good Life Takes You." Artist may submit no more than two (2) works for consideration. The selected works will be exhibited in the First Floor Gallery, which is located at City Hall. The project is open to all artists, regardless of race, color, religion, natural origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. The Philadelphia GLBT Artists Festival
The Philadelphia GLBT Artists Festival is now accepting submissions from professional Emerging and Mid Career Artists for the chance to be presented in the first festival, to be held May 28-31, 2009. Submissions are welcomed from Artists living anywhere in the United States or Canada. This is a Multi-disciplinary Artists festival that seeks to connect Emerging Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Trans artists with supportive audiences. All types of Artists specializing in any type of Art or genre: Music, Dance, Theater, Film, Visual, etc are welcomed. Notably, this will be the very first multi-disciplinary Arts Festival featuring GLBT-identified Artists to take place in Philadelphia. This is a festival that celebrates the creative and artistic abilities of the GLBT community. Their artistic works do not have to be GLBT-Themed. All performances will be marketed to the general public in major cities all over the country, with a goal of showcasing the artists to large audiences of people representing all sexual orientations, races, religions, etc. The Festival Coordinators are prepared to extend the festival to run May 28-June 7, 2009 based on the number of submissions received. Downtown Denver Arts Festival
11th Annual Downtown Denver Arts Festival. The festival is the only major event in Colorado that showcases only artists from Colorado. Paint the Town
Waterworks Gallery of Friday Harbor, Washington is coordinating a competition for artists in celebration of Friday Harbor's 100th anniversary, Paint the Town. Artists are invited to paint their interpretations of the Town of Friday Harbor and enter their paintings in the juried show scheduled for summer 2009. 100 years of Friday Harbor History The Town of Friday Harbor has been the commercial, social, and cultural hub of San Juan Island since the 1890s. On February 9, 1909, Friday Harbor, encompassing 1.4 square miles, was officially incorporated as a Town. The Great Depression, World War II, the pea weevil, and competition from Eastern Washington growers brought about the decline of traditional Island industries. However, the 1960s brought tourism and the appreciation of Friday Harbor's picturesque qualities. Deadline: March 15, 2009. Postcard Art Competition & Exhibition
Now accepting entries for traveling exhibition, featuring works in the four-by-six-inch postcard size. Residencies - Vermont Studio Center
The Vermont Studio Center is an international residency program open to all artists and writers. Year-round, VSC hosts 50 artists and writers per month, each of whom receives an individual studio, private room, and all meals. Residencies last from 2-12 weeks and provide uninterrupted time to work, a community of creative peers, and a beautiful village setting in northern Vermont. In addition, VSC's program includes a roster of Visiting Artists and Writers (2 painters, 2 sculptors and 2 writers per month) who offer slide talks/readings and individual studio visits/conferences. The Montauk Fine Arts Festival - Long Island, NY
The Montauk Fine Arts Festival will be located in the eastern-most village on the south shore of Long Island, New York. The town of East Hampton includes the village of East Hampton, as well as four official hamlets of Montauk, Amagansett, Wainscott and Springs. It consists of 70 square miles and stretches 25 miles from Wainscott in the west to Montauk Point to the east. Its reputation as an artist colony goes back to the 1940s, when a number of modern and contemporary artists made their homes here. Artists intimately associated with the town are Thomas Moran of the Hudson River School, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, Lee Krasner, and Willem de Kooning. Deadline: February 15, 2009. Art Can Project - Santa Clarita, CA
The Arts & Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee seek to commission an artwork or artworks for the Old Town Newhall Art Can Project. A total of five artists will be selected, each completing one artwork on a trash recemptacle. Project Description: Old Town Newhall Art Can Project is an Art in Public Places program by the City of Santa Clarita. The project serves two purposes: to bring works of art to an area that currently is devoid of art, and to enhance the "Keep Newhall Clean" program. All artist submissions will be reviewed by the Old Town Newhall Association and Downtown Main Street Association for recommendations and finally presented to the Santa Clarita Art Advisory Committee for the of five artists. I-Park Environmental Art Residency Program
I-Park Environmental Art Residency Program Environmental artists, landscape/garden designers, other visual and performance-based artists are invited to submit proposals for site-specific works on the grounds of the 450-acre I-Park artists community in rural East Haddam, Connecticut (US). Twelve artists/designers will be selected by a three-person independent panel for two, two-week residency sessions (August 17-31 and September 2-16, 2009), with a grant of $1,200 per invited artist plus up to an additional $1,000 for reimbursement of travel costs and/or materials. Bellagio Center Creative Arts Residencies - Italy
The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center creative arts residencies for composers, novelists, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, and visual artists are designed to provide time for disciplined work, individual reflection, and collegial engagement free of the usual interruptions of professional and personal life. The Bellagio Center, located on a peninsula adjacent to Lake Como, two hours north of Milan, Italy, typically offers one-month stays for no more than three to five creative artists at a time. The foundation seeks applicants from any country in the world who are able to demonstrate a history of significant achievement in their respective artistic disciplines. Individuals from developing countries and young artists with significant accomplishments exhibitions, publications, performances are particularly encouraged to apply. Decisions are based on the quality of the proposed project, the ability of the applicant to articulate the project's purpose and goals, the professional qualifications and achievements of the applicant, and the suitability and value of the center for the proposed activity. Spouses/life partners may accompany the resident, or may apply for a concurrent residency. The center also offers collaborative residencies for two to four persons working on the same project. Residencies are typically four weeks long; however, shorter periods may be available. Room and board are provided without charge to all residents and their spouses/partners. Residents and spouses/partners must pay for their own airfare and local transportation to/from Bellagio. Assistance with round-trip economy airfare between the home country and Milan is available on a financial needs basis to qualifying residents and their spouses/partners from developing countries. BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass
BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass is a dynamic collaboration among The Ohio State University, OSU Glass Program, OSU Urban Arts Space, Hawk Galleries and Steuben Glass. Together we will discover and introduce to the public a select group of artists with a conceptual and working engagement in glass. These artists will have completed their formal training in art beyond the baccalaureate (MFA or equivalent) since the beginning of the new millennium. This collaboration demonstrates a commitment to advancing new and innovative glass art worldwide. Through an international juried selection process and critical writing about work in the field, we intend to expand the discourse about glass art globally. National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition
Sculpture artists from across the nation are invited to participate in the fourth annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. South Carolina's only national sculpture competition and exhibition is organized by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department. This unique exhibition offers emerging and established artists the opportunity to display thought provoking sculpture throughout Riverfront Park on the banks of the Cooper River. Revealing Culture
VSA arts is seeking visual artists who are interested in participating in the VSA arts International Festival to be held in 2010. Revealing Culture will be the most comprehensive survey of international artists with disabilities brought to the United States. Applicants from a wide range of artistic practices are encouraged to apply. Disability is a requirement for eligibility, but will not be disclosed during the jury process. Artists will be selected on the aesthetic merits of their work. Artists are asked to consider the theme "Revealing Culture" as it relates to their submission, but a relationship to the theme does not have to be explicit or obvious in the work itself. VSA arts will use the exhibition to consider the influence of disability: What connections are established between the artist and the local disability community? How has the experience of disability shaped the artistic process or resulting work-if at all? These influences in conjunction with artists' responses will help to further refine the theme of the exhibition. Art Fair on the Square 2009 - Madison, WI
Art Fair on the Square is not only the single largest art fair in the Midwest, but it is also rated among the best fine art shows in America by artists from across the country, and by publications such as Sunshine Artist magazine. Acreage Library - Palm Beach County, FL
Palm Beach County's Art in Public Places Program seeks to hire an artist/artist team to design architectural and/or landscape environments for the County government’s first LEED™ certified project. The selected artist(s) will collaborate with the project's design team to create public art installations that utilize sustainable technology and materials in order to enhance the library’s interior and exterior "green" design and function. Preliminarily, the project team perceives public art integration opportunities associated with natural light and solar power, entry plaza and building facade enhancements, water efficiency, plantscapes and interior views to outdoors.
