Call for Documentary Artwork - San Diego, CA
The City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture seeks an artist or artist team to create permanent, documentary public artwork(s) such as drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, videos or multi-media artworks, which record the unique nature of City Heights and engender community. Fences & Gates - Phoenix, AZ
Matthew A. Henson/HOPE VI Housing Project: An artist or designer will be contracted to design fences and gates for community gardens at the Matthew A. Henson/HOPE VI Housing Project site. The artist will work with the Office of Arts and Culture, the Housing Department, and the HOPE VI team. The project design budget is expected to be approximately $20,000. Once the design for the artwork is approved by the City of Phoenix, the artist would be contracted to fabricate or oversee the fence fabrication. The total construction budget is expected to be approximately $200,000, including expenses for construction, fabrication, installation, permitting approvals and City of Phoenix costs to coordinate the project.
Children's Museum of Phoenix: An artist or designer will be contracted to design a fence and gates at the museum. The location along 7th Street in the heart of downtown Phoenix is highly visible. The artist will work with the Children's Museum, the Office of Arts and Culture, Historic Preservation Office and other city departments. The work will bolster the City's efforts to improve pedestrian amenities throughout downtown. The design budget for this project is expected to be approximately $25,000. Once the design for the artwork is approved by the City of Phoenix the artist will be issued a contract for fabrication or fabrication oversight. The total construction budget is approximately $300,000 including expenses for construction, fabrication, installation, permitting approvals and City of Phoenix costs to coordinate the project. Artists, designers, metalsmiths, graphic artists and industrial designers residing in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, or Utah are eligible to apply. Artists new to public art are encouraged to apply if they feel that their work can be translated into designs for gates and fences. Deadline: July 10, 2009. Hurt Park Public Art Bench Project - Roanoke, VA
The City of Roanoke and the Roanoke Arts Commission seek qualified artists or artist teams to design, fabricate and install a minimum of two public art benches in Highland Park in the historic Old Southwest neighborhood. This project is open to all artists and artist teams, aged 18 and over, who are residents of the United States. Existing benches will also be considered. Deadline: June 26, 2009. LYNX Blue Line Extension - Charlotte, NC
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is seeking professional artists and artists teams for its LYNX Blue Line Extension (BLE) $4M-$6Million art opportunities. CATS Art-in-Transit program adheres to FTA guidelines, requiring selection of artists by their peers, community involvement, excellence being the first criteria for art, oversight by a committee of art professionals, and access to art opportunities by local, regional and national artists. Open to all professional visual artists, students are not eligible. CATS commits 1% of its project design and construction budget (minus rolling stock and property acquisitions) to public art. The estimated art budget for the LYNX BLE art is $4,000,000 to $6,000,000 and will be finalized at 30% design. Numerous art opportunities exist for teams and individual artists; locations where patrons wait for trains provide opportunities for art that invites contemplation, while transition sites require art that can be appreciated as patrons move from one place to another. From Our Perspective: A National Women's Exhibition
The Oakland Community College Womencenter sponsors From Our Perspective: A National Women's Art Exhibition - a juried exhibit featuring two- and three-dimensional works of art. The exhibit occurs September 17-October 9, 2009 at the Smith Theatre Gallery at Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Eligibility: open to all women artists nationwide, recent original works only, all media (excluding video and performance). Submit up to three works. Submission deadline is July 31, 2009. Santo Foundation Individual Artists Grants
The Santo Foundation is offering two $2,500 individual visual artists grants in any area of expression. The juror is Paul Ha, Director of the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis. To apply, upload 10 jegs, and a current CV. All national, international candidates are eligible as well as undergraduates, MA and MFA candidates, emerging artists and mid-career artists. A nominal non-refundable application fee of $25 is required for each application. An applicant who works in a variety of areas may apply more than once. Video/Performance artist may submitted with 10 pegs of still images but they will also need to mail a DVD (3 minutes max length) to The Santo Foundation, 5832 Macklind Ave, St. Louis, MO 63109. Wayne State College - Wayne, NE
Wayne State College (WSC) and the Nebraska Arts Council are pleased to announce that the WSC Seymour Heritage Plaza Project is now open to public artists/artist teams throughout the Midwest region. This call is a Request For Qualifications from artists. (Proposals will be sought from artists shortlisted as finalists for the project. Honoraria will be provided for artists at the proposal stage.) Artists from the following states are eligible to apply: Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Colorado and Wyoming. The Seymour Heritage Plaza Project remodels an existing exterior plaza area to enhance the appearance and campus community use of the location, which includes a seating/study space and performance platform area. The plaza is part of a larger greenspace upgrade project on campus which will include a sculpture walk featuring existing artwork. An Artist/Artist Team is sought to plan the design remodel of the space incorporating these desired features and parameters. Contact J.D. Summit Arts Project - Summit, NJ
The City of Summit, in Union County, New Jersey, seeks artists and design professionals interested in creating original three-dimensional projects for installation at the two principal roadway entrances to the city. Interested artists/designers are invited to submit a portfolio of their relevant work, as the first step in a design competition. The two sites are located on two-lane, 35 MPH streets at opposite sides of the City of Summit. The project should identify the city and increase people's appreciation of art and good design. A selection committee comprised of art professionals and representatives of the City of Summit will choose finalists based on the suitability of their portfolios. Finalists will be given a detailed overview of the project, including traffic-safety requirements. The finalists will each receive a $1,000 honorarium for submitting a design. The one or two artists/designers whose designs are selected will receive $2,500 honoraria; commissions to create their works will depend on Public Arts/Summit's ability to raise money to fund the project. Long Island International Arts Festival
The Long Island International Arts Festival is the first fine art event ever held in Eisenhower Park, a stunningly beautiful 930-acre park located in the heart of Nassau County only 20 miles from Manhattan. Not only does Eisenhower Park have easy access from every major highway that surrounds the park but easy accessibility to all portions of Long Island by major routes including the Long Island Expressway (I-495), the Belt Parkway (Hwy 135), and the Meadowbrook and Wantagh parkways. Court Avenue Pedestrian Bridge - Memphis, TN
UrbanArt and The Riverfront Development Corporation (RDC) are seeking an artist with experience with lighting to enhance a pedestrian bridge that will span Court Avenue, connecting the new University of Memphis Law School to Confederate Park. The bridge will be a 200'-long box truss constructed of steel, concrete and an ipe deck that will be lit with bollard lights on the east side of the bridge at 40’ intervals. The bridge will be visible from a distance from the west, as far away as the I-40 Bridge over the Mississippi River (Hernando DeSoto Bridge), and Mud Island River Park. Three finalists will be selected and asked to develop a general concept, each receiving an honorarium and travel reimbursement. Technical capabilities to design and install a lighting project are preferred, as well as experience with "green" lighting products, such as those with lower energy consumption and longer lifespan. James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Building - University of Utah
Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating art for the public places of the new James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology and Neuroscience Research facility on the campus of the University of Utah. This facility is designed to support collaborative Biomedical and Neuroscience Research. Budget: $660,000 total. Deadline: July 30, 2009. It is anticipated that more than half of the total budget will be applied toward the commission of a major work befitting the significance of this important national research center. The remaining budget will be considered for art commissions throughout the facility. American or legal resident artists / artist teams are encouraged to apply. Art selection committee members and immediate families, and employees, subcontractors or consultants of LAS Architecture, Prescott Muir Architects and Layton Construction are not eligible for this project. ArtInPlace - Charlottesville, VA
Several locations around Charlottesville have been selected for public sculpture. Charlottesville is visited by 500,000 tourists each year. All locations are in areas of high vehicular traffic. Although ArtInPlace is looking primarily for large works, it has established sites along Schenk's Branch Greenway where a pedestrian path parallels McIntire Road and allows for views of smaller works. Each installation will be in place for 11 months.Based on electronic material submitted, each artist receives appropriate descriptions of themselves and their work, the availability of other work for sale, and a link to his/her own Web site. Neptune Festival Art & Craft Show - Virginia Beach, VA
September 25-27, 2009. This is a family-friendly craft show welcoming both original artwork and reproductions. Artists may bring original artwork and reproductions of only their own two-dimensional work, editions of photography up to 500, country crafts, ceramics made from molds, jewelry made from purchased beads, stained glass or other items that employ the use of patterns, and items that are purchased and then embellished, including clothing (but no pressed-on decals). Changing Landscapes: A Dialogue Between Art and the Environment
A Studio in the Woods announces Changing Landscapes: A Dialogue Between Art and the Environment, four funded 6-week artist residencies. These environmental residencies are based on the premise that Southern Louisiana can be seen as a microcosm of the global environment, manifesting both the challenges and possibilities inherent in human interaction with the natural world. We ask artists to describe in detail how the region will affect their work, to propose a public component to their residency and to suggest ways in which they will engage with the local community. The call is open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental issues and a commitment to seeking and plowing new ground. Four six-week residencies which include a $3000 stipend and $1000 supply budget are to be offered between September 2009 and April 2010. Submissions must be postmarked by June 19, 2009. Water Pollution Control Center - San Jose, CA
The City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and Environmental Services Department are seeking an artist to create interpretive artworks for long-term display at the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). The interpretive artworks are intended to be an integrative aspect of the current WPCP tours that encourage visitors to reflect upon the issues that impact water conservation and use. WPCP tours are conducted in buses; therefore the artworks must be visible at a distance, or incorporate aspects that take this in consideration. There may also be opportunities to develop interpretive artwork for the WPCP lecture hall, or for the introductory element of the tour. During project development the selected artist will tour the WPCP individually and with tour groups, meet with ESD staff, and learn about the WPCP master plan, which is currently in development. The artwork will be in addition to signage that will be created for the tour by WPCP staff. The focus of this project will be on the creation of an artwork(s) that enhance the experience of and information about the WPCP provided through the tours. Deadline: June 19, 2009. Gallery 113 - Woodinville, WA
Gallery 113 is an artist-owned and operated gallery of fine arts and crafts. The Gallery is located at Apple Farm Village (www.applefarmvillage.com) in the heart of the Woodinville wine and tourist district. This high visibility location is on the main artery to all of the top wineries in Woodinville and is reestablishing in a new location on the premises. Selected artists will also be invited to join the Sammamish Valley Arts Center (www.sammamishvalleyartscenter.org) which hosts a monthly Art Walk at local business and winery tasting rooms and, an annual Artists Studio Tour in April. SVAC is a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to advance the quality and availability of art education and, to promote an understanding and appreciation of the arts. Gallery 113 currently has space available for emerging and established artists working in 2D and 3D fine arts and crafts. Artists will be selected by an executive committee for one of three possible levels of membership or inclusion: 1) as an active member paying $60 per month, committing to 4 hours per month of work, at a commission rate of 20% or, 2) as an active member paying $0 per month, committing to 20 hours per month of work, at a commission rate of 10% or, 3) on a very limited time and space available basis, as a non-member with no fee or work commitment - receiving 50% commission for work sold.
