Artist Opportunities
Bilateral Engagement
The Organization of American States (OAS) Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Washington Sculptors Group and the upcoming centennial in 2010 of the OAS historic headquarters by exploring the ever-widening directions that contemporary sculpture has taken over the past decades. During the 1980s, artists in both North and South America were still absorbing the radical artistic, political and social changes of the 1960s and 1970s. Minimalism, conceptualism, feminism, the de-materialization of the art object, installation art and assemblage are all re-structuring of sculpture that take interesting current forms in the works of the WSG. Deadline: August 17, 2009. For more information or to apply to this call, go to: www.callforentry.org

Pedestrian Bridge Artwork - Medford, OR
The Medford Arts Commission is looking for artists qualified to create and install art on a pedestrian bridge. The bridge is currently in the design phase and it is anticipated that it will be installed by June 2010. The pedestrian bridge will be located over Barnett Road in Medford, Oregon. The bridge will provide a safe route for bicyclists and pedestrians to continue on the Bear Creek National Bike Trail which traverses generally along the I-5 corridor from Ashland Oregon to Central Point Oregon. The trail has many access points along the way. It is unlikely that art can be incorporated into the design phase (poured and cast into the design or welded into the design--for instance) as that phase is currently taking place. The installation of art may be able to take place while sections of the bridge are on the ground, however, that time frame is unknown at this time. Interested artists should note that due to the nature of the site, there are significant concerns for safety. Artwork must be durable, non reflective and unbreakable. A budget has not been established at this time but will be determined when the Commission asks for specific proposals. Deadline: August 27, 2009. For more information, go to: www.ci.medford.or.us or contact Bev Power at bev.power@cityofmedford.org.
