November 19-December 31, 2009. The Salida SteamPlant Paquette Gallery welcomes ArtistsRegister.com member PJ Bergin, a local mixed-media fiber artist in her debut solo show. Bergin's primary body of work consists of making felt from wool roving, hand-dyeing it and using the felt for commissioned wall art and sculptures. Felt making is both tactile and visual and with it she designs and creates original abstract wall art. For her Network Tapestry, each piece is carefully embellished, making it truly one of a kind. The "drape" of the tapestry when hung on a wall, lends maximum advantage to light and shadow, playing off the surface design. The show features recent work as well as new pieces on first public view. Artist Opportunities
Two-Month Funded Residency - Sculpture Space, Inc.
Sculpture Space, in Utica, New York, invites artists to apply for a residency between September 2010 and August 2011. Twenty new artists are selected each year; each receives a $2000 stipend to help with residency expenses. A maximum of four artists stay at any one time, for ample workspace. The Artist Review Committee, with one rotating guest panelist, makes the selection in January. Past panelists include curator consultant Nancy Rosen (Nancy Rosen, Inc.) and Denise Markonish (Mass MoCA). Artists are notified in March of the panel's decision. Primary criteria are quality, originality and potential for growth. The receipt deadline for applications is December 1 annually. Artists have daily, 24-hour studio access and are expected to stay for the full two-month work stay. The facility consists of 5,000 square feet of open studio space with specialized equipment and two 400-square-foot private studios available by arrangement. A studio manager offers technical support. The studio is located on three acres in downtown Utica, which is 200 miles northwest of NYC in the Mohawk Valley. Artists have private bedrooms in a shared apartment near the studio, available free or at low cost to visiting artists. Free housing/plus transportation stipends for nine NYS. Veterinary Education and Clinical Research Center - University of Florida
The Art in State Buildings Program at the University of Florida is pleased to announce a new public art opportunity for project UF 313 Veterinary Education and Clinical Research Center (VECRC). Project Never is a free awards competition created by graphic designers for graphic designers. Thousands of effective designs die each day--often for good reason. At the same time, successful designers and agencies generate many worthy ideas for each project or campaign, only one of which gets chosen for wider audiences. Art on Paper
The Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) invites all artists residing in the United States to enter its 33rd annual Art on Paper exhibition, a open-juried mixed media competition. Any original two- or three-dimensional work on or with paper will be considered. The works selected will be on exhibit in the MFA's Circle Gallery, 18 State Circle, Annapolis, Maryland from March 19 through April 18, 2010. Deadline: January 11, 2009. e-merge 2010
e-merge 2010 is the sixth biennial, juried kiln-glass exhibition for emerging artists sponsored by Bullseye Glass Co., a manufacturer of colored glass for art and architecture with worldwide distribution and a strong commitment to education and promoting glass art. Hosted for the first time at Bullseye Gallery, this exhibition will recognize students and early-career artists who are rising through the ranks of kiln-formed studio glass but who are not yet represented by major galleries. e-merge 2010 offers over $5,000 in prizes in the form of Bullseye gift cards and conference scholarships. Call for Proposals - Target Gallery/Torpedo Factory Art Center
Call for proposals for an exhibition in the fall of 2010. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. The individual or group associated with the chosen proposal will receive a solo exhibition at the Target Gallery from October 2-31, 2010. The artist/s will also receive a $500 stipend. A three-person panel consisting of artists and art professionals not affiliated with the Torpedo Factory Art Center will review all applications. One non-voting representative from the Target Gallery will also be present during the final group review. Alligator Juniper National Photography Contest
Alligator Juniper magazine seeks quality black and white photography for its 2010 issue. $500 prize for one winner; other winners selected for publication are paid in copies (4). The magazine features contemporary fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and photography, and was awarded the AWP Director's Prize for Undergraduate Literary Magazines in 2001, 2004 and 2009.

ONWARD '10
Project Basho, a photography resource center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is now accepting submissions for the ONWARD '10 competition. This year's juror is Debbie Fleming Caffery, noted documentary photographer and Guggenheim fellow. Her work has been collected by museums around the world and her most recent monograph, "The Spirit and The Flesh" was published by Radius Books. Selected work will be featured in a group exhibition at Project Basho in February 2010 as well as in Project Basho's online gallery. Special recognition will be awarded in the form of cash prizes and the opportunity for a two-person show at Project Basho Gallery. Mort Abelson Scholarship
The contest honors Mort Abelson, who was instrumental in raising the awareness of jewelry design and promoting jewelry designers in the US. The contest winner will receive an all-expenses-paid scholarship from anywhere in the US to San Francisco (air, lodging, tuition and fees) for a master class of their choice during the Academy's annual International Masters Symposium in April 2010. For three weeks during the Masters Symposium, prominent jewelry artists, designers, craftsmen and experts converge in San Francisco to teach professional skills and techniques in the area of their greatest expertise. Curate This! 2010 - Denver
The BECA Foundation is pleased to present Curate This! 2010 - Denver, a city-wide international emerging contemporary art + design exhibition opening June 24, 2010 in Denver, Colorado during the Denver Biennial of the Americas and runs through August 12, 2010. The event is the second, expanded installment in the Curate This! exhibition series and with it The BECA Foundation aims to create at the very least, a "United Nations of emerging contemporary art + design" for the benefit of artists, designers and the public - participating both on the ground in Denver and online throughout the world. Embracing Our Differences
Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 7th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. 45 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the month of April 2010 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bayfront. The exhibit will also be displayed throughout the month of May 2010 in North Port, Florida. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 550,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. An additional six "honorable mention" selections will be made. Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme "Embracing Our Differences." The artwork will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size - 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented. Deadline for submission is January 12, 2010. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries. Colorado Clay 2010
Foothills Art Center (FAC) is seeking creative ceramic artists living in Colorado for Colorado Clay 2010. This biennial juried exhibition aims to showcase the exciting, divergent approaches to contemporary ceramics. FAC is honored to have Adrian Arleo serve as this year's juror. The prestigious roster of recent jurors includes Richard Notkin, Michel Conroy, Peter Held, Don Reitz and Tony Marsh. Foothills Art Center has served as the center for art exhibitions, education and culture for the greater Golden community for over 40 years. Navel Gazing: Artists Visions of Florida
The Brevard Art Museum's quest is to find artists who are able to reconstitute existing ideas or make fresh-squeezed interpretations of Florida. Sixteen artists will be selected for the exhibition, eight Florida artists and eight from outside the state, allowing audiences to compare and contrast an insider's versus a tourist's point of view on our diverse, complicated, beautiful, and always interesting home state. For the eight artists who do not live within Florida, the Museum will provide a $1,000 honorarium to travel to and experience Florida and to seek or confront subjects, ideas, and inspiration for the art they will create for the exhibition. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2009. Selected artists will be required to document their experience with a journal, receipts, travel blog, video, photographs or by any means relating to their proposal in addition to creating their artwork(s) or installations. For the eight artists who reside in Florida, the Museum will provide a $250 honorarium to encourage new reflections and new works of art from an insider's point of view. As a counterpoint to the visiting artists' travel documentation, selected Florida artists will be required to provide creative proof of their Florida bona-fides. Artist Residencies - Montana Artists Refuge
The Montana Artists Refuge is an artist-led residency community, which provides a variety of affordable short and long-term living and studio spaces for visiting artists in the uniquely scenic, historic mining town of Basin, Montana. The Refuge was established for artists to be able escape from the day-to-day struggle of living in order to have the gift of time, freedom and solitude to create and rejuvenate. The Refuge exists to create a quality environment for artists to work, as well as the opportunity for artistic collaboration in a creative community. The Refuge supports a variety of contemporary arts disciplines such as visual, music, performance and literary arts. Additionally, the Refuge maintains programs that are designed to enhance the residential programs and create a thriving and vital community for the arts both within the residencies and the greater community. As of December 2009, the Refuge has hosted 100s of artists from 24 states and seven nations including Poland, China, Ireland and South Africa. Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail - Lexington, KY
The Legacy Trail Public Art Consortium (LTPAC) is seeking Statements of Qualifications from artists, creative teams, art consultants and other professional consultants capable of providing a public art master plan for a new 9-mile bicycle and pedestrian trail located in Lexington, Kentucky. The vision of this linear park will be to create a "museum without walls." The budget for a completed and comprehensive public art master plan is $25,000 plus reasonable travel expenses to include a minimum of two trips to Lexington, negotiable with finalist. The LTPAC is looking for a planner/consultant who can incorporate central Kentucky's unique cultural, historical and environmental heritages with a comprehensive public art program. The goal of the "museum without walls" is to utilize contemporary art created by artists working in environmentally conscious media. Belle Glade Library Branch - Belle Glade, FL
Palm Beach County's Art in Public Places Program is seeking artist(s) to assist in the design of site specific artwork for the new Belle Glade Branch Library. The selected artist(s) will collaborate with the project team to identify and design integrated, functional artistic experiences that immerse youth, families and caregivers in environments that promote learning and literacy. Artist must be able to work effectively and collaboratively with the project's design team. All professional public artists (artist teams) regardless of media, school or style, will be considered. National Photography Exhibit - Visions of Light
It is light, after all, that provides us with the fundamental approach to photography. From zero to 255 we have a full range of values that give us everything and then nothing. It is what draws us out and provides the highlights and shadows, volume and depth. Pre-visualizing we determine the approach necessary to accomplish the concept within our mind. Light is a powerful element and has been used throughout time as a metaphor for life. Visions of Light will showcase how photography deals with such an endless source of energy - revealed through many sources and revealing so many natural and spiritual concepts. This is a juried show by two career professionals, Don Jones, Bachelors Degree, Brooks Institute and Raymond McCoy, Bachelor Degree in the Fine Arts, Ohio University. Both are practicing and exhibiting artist in the Colorado Springs area and teaching photography as well. Cash awards will be given to the top three entries, Best of Show, 1st and 2nd Place, judged from the selected work for the Photography Exhibit. Sculpture Without Walls - Cannon Beach, OR
The City of Cannon Beach Oregon announces its fourth Sculpture Without Walls outdoor art exhibit, a public art program. Northwest artists are invited to submit digital images representing up to three sculptures appropriate for yearlong outdoor display. Five sculptures will be placed in prominent locations throughout Cannon Beach for one year, from April 2010 to April 2011. One sculpture, the winner of the People's Choice Award, will be purchased for up to $15,000 and become a permanent part of the City's public art collection.

Your Town, Anywhere - Black Rock Arts Foundation Grants
Black Rock Arts Foundation funds interactive art. The Foundation funds art that is accessible to the public, civic in scope and prompts the viewer to act and can be experienced in more ways than visually. The Foundation seeks art that is meant to be touched, heard or experienced, as well as viewed. Art that involves the audience in its creation and presentation is given priority for funding. Your project should meet the following criteria: art that requires human interaction to complete the piece; art that prompts people to interact with one another; art that responds to participants and to its environment; art that causes people to reflect on the larger community; art that challenges the viewers’ traditional perspective on art; art that belongs to the public and exists for the benefit of all. Black Rock Arts Foundation gives grants to individual artists, artist collectives and established 501 (c) 3 non profits that wish to create interactive artworks destined for communities in the world at large; there are no geographic restrictions placed on those who can apply. Request for Proposals - Flashpoint Gallery
Cultural Development Corporation (CuDC) is requesting proposals for Flashpoint Gallery's September 2010-August 2011 season. Open to all artists, independent curators and arts organizations presenting contemporary work in any medium. Flashpoint Gallery presents cutting-edge contemporary art and provides a springboard for talented artists and curators to enhance their careers. The gallery seeks to inspire creativity and encourage the creation of new work by emerging and under-represented artists and curators. CuDC is seeking inventive, original proposals in any media. This year, for the first time, CuDC is partnering with The Community Foundation of the National Capital Region to make grants to artists participating in the Flashpoint Gallery Program. The Creative Communities Fund (CCF) will provide grants of up to $2500 to artists to support the creation and presentation of new work. DC area artists applying to the Flashpoint Gallery are encouraged to submit grant applications in conjunction with their program applications.
