Jersey Barriers - NYC
The New York City Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs Unit and New York Cares, is launching an initiative to improve the appearance of Jersey Barriers at selected sites around the City. NYCDOT is soliciting artists to propose designs to be painted directly onto a number of barriers with support from NY Cares volunteers over a single weekend in spring 2010. Pleasure Point Park and Parkway - Santa Cruz, CA
An artist will be selected to create a site-specific public art component along the new East Cliff Drive Parkway or for Pleasure Point Park in Santa Cruz County. East Cliff Drive in Pleasure Point is being improved with a new coastal-blufftop parkway with overlooks, along with a small regional park with coastal access. These improvements will better serve the many visitors who enjoy the breathtaking coastal views, as well as the beach and surf access points. Details regarding the application process, as well as a concept site plan, are iucluded in the Call to Artists, which is available on the Parks Department webiste: www.scparks.com. The deadline for submitting a proposal is February 26, 2010.

Alternate Selves
Alternate Selves is an exhibition that explores the transformative power of costume. Through theater, annual holiday celebrations (such as Halloween and Mardi Gras), and even contemporary drag shows, costumes have allowed the wearer to reveal a new identity or at times hide from their own. Artists creating wearable items or those using costume, disguise, masks, etc. as primary thematic elements in their work may apply. Artists are encouraged to creatively interpret the theme. 2-D, 3-D, and time-based entries will be considered. Artists must be at least 18 years old to enter and cannot submit work that has previously been displayed at LAL. There is no entry fee or limit to the number of entries submitted by each artist. There are no limitations on the media that will be considered. Deadline: March 1, 2010. Artists may enter by mail, drop-off, or email, but all images of work must be digital. Application materials will not be returned. Design Team Roster - Portland, OR
The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) in Portland, Oregon, invites artists/teams currently living in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California to submit qualifications for the RACC Design Team Roster. The deadline for submissions is 11:59pm (Mountain Standard Time), Friday, February 12, 2010. Applications will only be accepted through the CaFE system at www.callforentry.org.

A Town Called Panic: Stop-motion Animation Contest
The contest's challenge is to make a stop-motion animation film, no longer than three minutes in length, on the theme of "panic." The film will be judged as a piece of entertainment, not just on the sophistication of its animation techniques, and the competition is open to all ages. The winning film will be included on the US edition of the A Town Called Panic DVD to be released in 2010 and the winning filmmaker will receive five copies of the DVD when it is released. Nine runners-up will also receive a copy of the DVD, a poster and their films will be featured on the A Town Called Panic YouTube Channel. The finished film must be made into a .mov, .mp4, .wmv, or .avi file no larger than 100MB. The film must be completely original work. Mechanics of Imagination
Mechanics of Imagination is an exhibition devoted to the beauty of invention and the resourcefulness of the human mind. This exhibition is intended to be a celebration of utilitarian craft and aesthetic ingenuity; artists are encouraged to submit works that challenge the very notion of mechanics and respond to the role of invention in contemporary culture. This exhibition is open to artists nationally, 18 years or older. This exhibition is in conjunction with Prescott College's Visual Arts Professional Practicum curriculum. Students in the Gallery Management Practicum developed the theme for the exhibit and students in the Visual Arts Professional Development Practicum will assist the selection committee to jury the work. $500 cash prize will be awarded to 1st place. Public Parks 2010 - Lincoln City, OR
The Lincoln City Public Arts Committee invites artists to submit proposals for a permanent installation in either the D-River City Park on NE Hwy 101 or Regatta Grounds on NE 14th Street, Lincoln City. This art installation would serve as a stand-alone art piece. In addition a wind sculpture can be incorporated. The existing sites do not have water or power available. The Downtown Denver Arts Festival
The Downtown Denver Arts Festival is the only major event in Colorado that showcases only artists from Colorado. The event takes place every Memorial Weekend (2010 dates are May 28-31) at the Pavilions (16th & Glenarm) in downtown Denver. Deadline for applications is February 12, 2010. Call for Resident Artists
The Contemporary Artists Center is located on the campus of the Woodside National Historic Register Site in Troy, NY. Two neo-gothic stone church buildings now house our artist program and welcome artists from all over the U.S. and abroad. The CAC focuses on emerging contemporary artists and accepts applicants who offer quality in their art and encourages diversity of style, medium (2-D, 3-D, 4-D) and concepts. The residency program offers artists the time and support to create new work and fosters an environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and collaboration. Art Fair on the Square - Madison, WI
The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce an open call for entries for the 52nd annual Art Fair on the Square, to be held July 10 and 11, 2010. Art Fair on the Square is the single largest art fair in the Midwest and is the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art's most important annual fundraiser, providing crucial support for exhibitions and education programming. For two days, the eight blocks that surround Wisconsin's beautiful State Capitol are transformed as artists, entertainers, vendors, and some 200,000 visitors come together to celebrate the arts. Commemorating the End of the Massive Resistance - Norfolk, VA
The Norfolk Public Art Commission seeks to commission an artist to design a commemoration that will tell the story and educate viewers of the history and importance of the End of the Massive Resistance. The committee is not looking for specific representation but hopes the work will communicate a depth of feeling, meaning and human understanding of this time and history. The final artwork should communicate the past and what was, be thought-provoking and challenging but also look to the future with inspiration and communicate our hopes as a community and a higher ideal. The selected artist will be work closely with the community to understand the history of this significant event, the changing race relations and what it means to Norfolk. Deadline: February 25, 2010 1:00 PM EST. Project funds: Up to five finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the public art planning committee and paid $1,000 to make a presentation to the committee. This includes all travel, preparation and interview. One artist will be selected for the project. An additional $32,000 is available for the final complete design phase. Beyond Audubon
Exhibition dates: May 7-June 30, 2010. Beyond Audubon invites women artists to submit artwork that applauds, challenges or transcends the bird illustrations of John James Audubon. Calls for Participation: FIGMENT 2010
FIGMENT 2010 will be held on June 11-13, 2010, on Governors Island in New York Harbor. FIGMENT 2010 will be the fourth annual free participatory arts event. In 2009, over 13,000 participants came to FIGMENT to interact and engage with over 400 participatory arts projects in every conceivable medium, including interactive sculpture, performance, music, social experiments, games, and lectures. This year FIGMENT is expected to grow again, and will be accepting submissions for the FIGMENT event beginning on February 15, 2010. Three Calls for Participation are now open for projects on Governors Island to be installed for the entire season: City of Dreams Pavilion, FIGMENT Minigolf and FIGMENT Sculpture Garden. California Community Foundation: Fellowships for Visual Artists
For more than 90 years, the California Community Foundation (CCF) has recognized, encouraged and supported the Southern California arts community by funding and nurturing a full range of artistic expressions. The Fellowship for Visual Artists is designed to support local emerging and mid-career artists in advancing to the next level of professional development. The foundation views the arts as a vehicle of community building and civic engagement, especially since the arts can help communities address difficult social problems, provide a safe means of bridging differences and enrich people's lives. The foundation's commitment to support individual artists emphasizes the role of the arts in connecting communities, bridging cultural barriers and in celebrating the rich diversity of Los Angeles County. Eastern State Penitentiary - Philadelphia, PA
Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site seeks proposals for its 2011 tour season and beyond. Full details are available at www.easternstate.org/exhibits/guidelines.php. Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Known for its grand architecture and strict discipline, this was the world's first true "penitentiary," a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of convicts. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious criminals, including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone. Tours today include the cellblocks, solitary punishment cells, Al Capone's Cell, and Death Row. A critically-acclaimed series of artists' installations is free with admission. AIR: Art in Roanoke
The Roanoke Arts Commission (RAC) is seeking up to six artists to exhibit in the second AIR: Art in Roanoke, a temporary sculpture exhibition running September 1, 2010 through March 1, 2012. The RAC is accepting submissions now through March 12, 2010 from experienced artists for freestanding sculpture. Artworks may incorporate interactive as well as functional elements. This invitation is extended to all artists 18 and older regardless of where they live. In addition to finished pieces, proposed work will also be considered. Art Encounters - Douglas County, CO
Now in its 3rd year, Douglas County Art Encounters public art program invites sculpture artists to submit applications for participation in the year-long, outdoor sculpture exhibit from June 2010 to June 2011. Application deadline: February 26, 2010. Chosen artist will receive a $500 stipend for each piece selected. Artists will also benefit from their works being viewed by thousands of people with the opportunity to be purchased. Millcreek Community Center - Salt Lake City, UT
Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists both regional and national working in a variety of media who are interested in participating in an open competition for works of public art for the new Millcreek Community Center located in a well established neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Utah. Up to $130,000 has been designated for art obtained through this process. The project presents an opportunity for a diverse and exciting range of public artworks ranging from exterior treatments including pavers and interior wall and/or floor treatments and mobiles. The Millcreek Community Center has many functions and houses a Recreation Center, Senior Center and Library, all accessible through the centers main lobby/atrium. Deadline: February 26, 2010. A New Symbol For Europe
The current European flag with its twelve identical yellow stars placed in a circle on a blue field, was designed in 1955. Since then Europe has changed. About 30 million people from Middle Eastern, African and Asian origins are living and working in Europe. Besides these new cultures, the inter European immigration creates a new mix of cultures as well. In the last 50 years Europe has become a very fine maze of identities. What is the identity of this cultural, economical and dynamic Europe with its diversity in cultures, languages, traditions and beliefs? And what is the perception on Europe, from within and from the outside? What would a new symbol for Europe look like? Designers are invited to send in their design for a new symbol for Europe. Twelve submissions will be selected by an international jury and will be printed on flags. These flags will be shown during the first edition of Design and Government in 2010 in Den Haag and Berlin. 2010 Portland Open Studios Tour
Open to all media. An opportunity for artists in Portland and surrounding suburbs to show their art process, sell their artwork, build an audience and communicate with the public. Artists selected for the event by a panel of three art professionals will have an image of their artwork published in the full color Tour Guide and on the web. Two weekends in October 10/9, 10/10 and 10/16, 10/17. Special scholarship opportunity: Kimberly Gales Emerging Artists Scholarship for artists between 20 and 30 years of age. New Mexico State University O'Donnell Hall
The Art in Public Places program enriches New Mexico's public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. Over 2,200 works of art have been placed in public spaces across New Mexico through the program. A variety of media by artists from all cultures and backgrounds reflects the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the nation to create a diverse and dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico. Through a fair and open public process, committees made up of local and regional representatives work with New Mexico Arts staff to select artwork for their communities. The Art in Public Places program then commissions large-scale projects that are designed for integration directly into the architecture of a building, or the program purchases existing original artwork to be placed in public buildings permanently or on loan. California Centered: Printmaking
The Merced County Arts Council is now accepting slides for its 4th Annual California Centered: Printmaking exhibit. The intention is to bring together a selection of the best in recent California printmaking. Merced, home of the newest University of California campus, is located in the geographic center of the state. This is the fourth in a series of annual exhibitions sponsored by the Merced County Arts Council. The exhibition will be held in the Merced Art Center, an award winning center with several dedicated exhibition galleries. The exhibition will run from April 1-June 1, 2010 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center in Merced, California. Slides or jpeg CDs are due February, 24, 2010. The cost is $10/slide for the first 2 slides or 3 slides for $25. Top 2 or 3 best in show artists will receive solo shows at the gallery during the same exhibition in 2011. Gateway Traffic Circle - Utah State University
Utah Public Art Program and Utah State University, Uintah Basin are requesting letters of interest and qualifications from artists interested in creating site specific art for the gateway traffic circle on the public access road to the new Bingham Entrepreneurship and Energy Research Center (BEERC) on the campus of Utah State University in Vernal, Utah. 6x6x2010
6x6x2010 is the third exhibition of thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international and local artists, designers, college students, youths and YOU. Each artwork will be 6x6 inches square and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All artworks will be for sale to the public for $20 each, to benefit Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Artists' names will be revealed to the buyer only upon purchase and all artworks will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Don't miss Rochester's largest exhibition and don't miss the chance to show your artwork in great company and support of Rochester's downtown contemporary art venue. All submissions are due by May 2, 2010 at 5:00pm and should be delivered or mailed directly to Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Atlanta Arts Festival
The Atlanta Arts Festival is a two-day, outdoor festival with an emphasis on the visual arts. Set in historic Piedmont Park, the festival fills the fall time art festival void in the City of Atlanta. This autumn festival is dedicated to bringing together outstanding artists from throughout the country with the large and enthusiastic art buying community of the Atlanta area. The Atlanta Arts Festival is produced by a highly qualified staff and strong volunteer pool, both with multiple years of event production and promotion in the City of Atlanta.
